The Doyon Early Act Team Hosts the Ipswich Rotary Club On Thursday, June 2nd, the Doyon Early Act Team hosted a meeting of the Ipswich Rotary Club. The Early Act Team is a group of 37 4th and 5th graders who work on community service projects with the help of Rotary mentors and teacher mentors.  Each year the Ipswich Rotary Club holds one of its meetings at Doyon to allow the students to participate in a Rotary meeting and allow the Rotarians to hear about the students projects for the year. At the meeting this year, the Doyon Early Act students were able to hear from two Interact students from Ipswich High School.  (Interact is the High School version of Early Act.)  The Early Act students were excited to hear that they will be able to continue their community service work with the Ipswich Rotary Club when they get to high school! Then the Doyon Early Act students described the projects they worked on this year: Local Project - Volunteering at the Ipswich Dinnerbell: The

Ipswich Elementary Art Work at Zumi's Coffeehouse Earlier this spring we had a very successful Art Show prepared by our Art Teacher, Linda Blum.  The Doyon hallway walls were converted into a museum gallery and the school was filled with families eagerly studying the beautiful art work of our students!  Six have been chosen to be displayed at Zumi's Coffeehouse with artwork of Winthrop School students.  Our featured students, one per grade Kindergarten to Grade 5, are very proud of their artwork display as are we! Please drop by Zumi's to see their artwork and have a cup of coffee.

Vernal Pool Visit

This week I had the pleasure of joining Mrs.Manzi's class to take a trip out back to the vernal pool. I know the strong impact it has had on many students over the years and was excited to get out there and witness the experience firsthand. Students were very knowledgable and taught me all about the amphibian migration and what we expect to see in a vernal pool in Spring. I am looking forward to a follow up trip! Great job Mrs.Manzi's class!

Doyon Early Act Team at the Ipswich Dinnerbell

On Monday, February 22nd, twenty-seven students and two teacher mentors from the Doyon Early Act Team volunteered at the Ipswich Dinnerbell.  As you may know, our Early Act Team is a group of 4th and 5th graders who, in partnership with the Ipswich Rotary Club, work on community service projects.  Each year the Early Act Team members choose local, national and global community service projects. This year they wanted to volunteer at the Dinnerbell!  The Ipswich Dinnerbell is a wonderful organization  of Ipswich churches and other community groups that provides community meals to the greater Ipswich area. Our students were very efficient as they set up the tables in the Masonic Hall to get ready for diners. They took initiative and were enthusiastic as they swarmed over the hall and finished in record time!  Once diners started to arrive, the students greeted them, served them, and enjoyed conversations with them about school and the Early Act Team.  We are so proud of the way our s

D.A.R.E. at Doyon

Sgt. Kmiec and Ptl. Woodworth of the Ipswich Police Department are working with our 1st and 3rd Grade teachers to start a new D.A.R.E. program at Doyon this year. Although D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, the new “Keepin’ it Real” elementary program focuses on making good decisions. This new program includes interactive lessons that present stories meant to help kids make smart decisions about being honest, safe and responsible in different situations. For example, a recent 1st grade lesson (see video below) taught our students about being aware of things and people around them when they are outside and making smart decisions. Another 1st grade lesson was about making smart decisions during an emergency including how to call 911. In addition to the actual D.A.R.E. lessons, Sgt. Kmiec and Ptl. Woodworth want to build relationships with our students so they feel comfortable approaching them in or out of school. On lesson days, Sgt. Kmiec and Ptl. Woodworth go to
